A few minutes ago I downloaded Simutrans-Experimental 7.1. with pak 128 (I think). When I try to run it, I get the following error messages.
Window #1 (title: FATAL ERROR)
FATAL ERROR: simmain::main()

***PLEASE INSTALL PROPER BASE FILES***
Window #2 (title: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I am running MS XP Pro Service Pack 3.
The premise of the game looks very interesting. I like what I have read about the improvements of Simutrans-std. I hope to get to play this game soon.
thanks for the help.
Jim
I think I might have figured out what my problem is.
I didn't realize that the link that I clicked was not a complete game setup. Now that I know this, I will try another way of getting the game to work.
Yes, indeed - the Simutrans-Experimental file released is just the executable. There is a complete package version available (see here (http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=1894.0) for details), but that contains an out of date version of Simutrans-Experimental. You could download and install that, then update (1) Simutrans-Experimental; and (2) Pak128.Britain-Ex (or just install Pak128 if you'd rather use that).
I have moved this topic to "Help requests" because the issue is not specific to Simutrans-Experimental, but applies to all binary-only downloads of Simutrans.
Welcome, however, to the Simutrans community - thank you for trying Simutrans-Experimental, and may you have much fun with Simutrans in the future!
