I hope that this one is straightforward query.
I did do a search but couldn't find an answer.
I have just downloaded the Soft Drink Industry add-on, this being the first industry add-on that I have attempted to download.
With all the vehicle and building add-ons that I have downloaded already, there were .pak files that I have just copied into the pak folder.
With the Soft Drink Industry add-on there was also a DrinksWar.dat file and three .png files.
Please excuse my ignorance, but what do I need to do with them?

Seem to be the sources files (need compilation), instead of the pak files (just install and play). Where did you get the addons?

Just use the pak files as you have done.
If you want to change something then you can edit the .dat and/or .png files and combine them into another pak file. See the wiki for details.
