I'm playing Simutrans 110.0, pak64, on Ubuntu Linux 11.04 64-bit.
When can I build monorails? The simulation is now in 1942 and my monorail tools show that I can remove monorails, build various signals, build a monorail depot and a storage column, but I cannot build any monirails.
Is there a year when monorails become available?

Monorail comes available in 1964.
You can check that by the way by starting a new game without timeline and look at the introduction dates of the monorail vehicles.

BTW a strategy question - is there an advantage to monorails over trams/light rails? Without being able to build anything yet, I do see one advantage - grade separation.
The main advantage is speed: you can reach 160 km/h on monorail. You can't do that with trams...
The main disadvantage is space: you can lay tramtrack on roads, you can't do that with monorail.
