Title: Can "elevated track" only be built diagonally?
Post by: Fraoch on June 24, 2011, 02:49:35 PM
The "elevated track" type has just become available in the game for me, and I'm pretty sure its purpose is to allow one track to pass over another - which I really want to do in one spot.

However I'm having trouble making it.  It seems to only want to be built on a diagonal.  It does not want to be built straight across, i.e. straight across the screen from left to right.  It always wants to go from upper left to lower right.

Is there something I'm doing wrong or is it supposed to be this way?

Simutrans 110.0 pak64 on Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit.

Thanks.

Elevated tracks are very hard to place... You have to use your pointer very good to avoid multi levels...

The only elevated way type I have seen in pak64 is elevated monorail. Is this what you are talking about? All other way types only have bridges, which can only be built "straight" (which appears diagonally on the screen due to the way the world is drawn). That's the way it has been for years.

I think he is referring to the 'elevated track' in the railroad tab, which is just a 400 km/h rail bridge and works like any other bridge.

Yes, that's it.

However, I discovered that even conventional bridges can only be drawn diagonally - someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I did confirm that you can also cross tracks with other bridge types, which I didn't know.

First, some people can get confused here, what you're telling as diagonal tracks in true are horizontal/vertical tracks and vice-verse.
As you can see on the attached picture there's a cross where I added North, South, East and West direction. Look the tiles.

As you estated bridges can't be built diagonally*, but elevated can be built on diagonal, see the picture.
