Title: [screenshots|freeplay-beware] a little bit out of control
Post by: fredp on October 05, 2011, 09:10:47 PM
Quite complex map, with quite a bit of terraforming but no 90° turns at all (for trains). Playing with pak128 on standard simutrans
Red is my track, white is AI's

Network is quite complex, perhaps things have a little fallen out of my control.. just some hundred of thousands waiting at some stations/airports (and changing an airport route e.g. from terminal A to B will cause unpredictable massive variations on passengers flows)

Last thing I improved: main freight yard (just added two new escape tracks to match the four incoming tracks)

And its surrounding network (mixed with passenger lines):

Looks great :)

But how do you manage the passenger transport in the cities? I can´t see that very well on the screenies.

I tend to prefer working with trains and regional-scale transport, as setting up and mantaining bus lines seems more like micro-management to me, so I set station-coverage to 8 or 10 (don't remember exactly) ad use buses only occasionally, mainly to reach city areas distant from the stations. For mid-sized cities, when bus lines are not enough, usually I lay a circular tram line. In larger cities I use either underground or overground "S-lines" if the city develops during the game around tracks I already built.

I know, I have more than 500.000 people waiting at a single station!

Sure, here you are: http://www.mediafire.com/?at8o4g61if4zcm1

I don't use any particular addon, just pak128 with station_coverage set to 8 (this should come with the savegame iirc).
Note that I made some changes since the screenshots: I built two new airports (one in Siracusa and one in Agrigento) and I'm currently working on the high-speed rail link between Cremona and Arezzo.

How long I have no idea, because sometimes I just can't stay without playing Simutrans but other times I just leave it alone for weeks.

I don't remember exactly, but the map size must be something like 1024x512 or so, started around 1950 with about 80-100 cities with 20-25000 inhabitants each I think (at least, this are the parameters I usually set when creating a new map)

Best way is to use a site like http://imgur.com/ and then reference the picture, like this:
