I remember at one time a mention of this crash by carlbaker during the pre-release testing of 10.0; and I found an earlier mention of this same type of error under (somewhat) similar circumstances from 2009;
Error is as follows:

new size 256 too large
(>255).
This happens upon loading of the save game in question (this happened to the save game sometime when playing was in progress, earlier savings and openings did not produce this crash). The save game was originally created with version 9.10 or 9.11 and was/is quite extensive.
Is it known and remediless, or is there something that could be fixed (should I upload a save game?), or is it hopeless and beyond all hope of potential redemption?
Without testing, I am not sure of the cause, but, as a workaround, you could try saving it as a lower version from whatever version in which you saved it before reloading in the latest version.

How would one save it at a lower version if it cannot be opened? (Same error appears when trying to load it now in 9.10 and the pak.britain.ex version doesn't load with 10.0; "required version 6")

Save game and required pak.
Three autosaves saved automatically sometime before the save itself do not crash (last one 15 min before the faulty one, the only changes I made being extending some lines and services that I recall).

I have be look on your Pakset and i fund Pakfiles they are very be very old.
I know why your game not more be Loadable it.
You have be Install Pakfiles they not work with Simutrans exp.

Those are not essential pakfiles but just a few trains, signals and track ways to make up for some things that are as of yet missing in pak.britain, and James once stated that pak files should not be causing any crashes.
Have you noticed any recurrence of this in 10.4/5?
