Title: Fish not transported in 1905?
Post by: missingpiece on December 27, 2011, 04:41:30 PM
Hi !

I'm playing 111 with standard pak64 plus food add-on. What is beyond my grasp is why I cannot get fish transported to my market place. Dunno how to upload a screen shots since that is well above 64kb. :( I can send it by e-mail to anyone who wants to take a pitch at this one. So please read my description :

- I have the fish swarm connected to a freight goods harbour ( I may not be using the correct English terms since I'm running the German translation of the game ); that connection correctly shows up in the detail window of the fish swarm, via the "lines connecting this stop" section.
- The harbour has a train station close, they actually build one station.
- From there, a train line connects another station in town, close to the market place. That station works, since I am delivering flour and beer to the market place via that same stop.
- The swarm is connected with a "palette" goods boat running the line, and the train line is serviced by a compound with palette goods carriages.

What am I doing wrong ?!

Have been trying to do that since 1890....

Nope. :) There are none at this time, I guess. Haven't seen them. And yes, it did occur to me that fish has that "cooled" suffix in the description. Now it is clear why it doesn't work in my network.

But, if you allow the general remark, why would 1905 industry in pak64 not allow any means to catch and transport fish ? That is a profession which is so old...is that something I should put to the suggestions section ? That pak64 be extended to allow fish transport before the arrival of cooled waggons ?

But before cooling, fresh fish could only be transported a very short distance or it would rot. I don't think simutrans supports this. Another goods type for dried or salted fish would be needed, with its own chain.

Actually in japan they had carriages with water for fresh fish; and that would have worked even in 1600 ...

Please use attached vehciles for food.

Ah, it didn't strike me that it is possible to specify fish directly as the freight type, rather than cooled goods. But it looks like the freight type for the horse drawn carrige is wrong in svn. It says papier, not fish.

Would a smokehouse ("Räucherei") or a fish drying site, input fresh fish, output smoked or dry fish on paletts, be a suitable addition for the fish food chain at that time ? Just tossing in an idea. I guess that "could", "would", "should" appears a lot for simutrans. If you think it's useful, I can repost in the suggestions forum...

Since the problem are matching vehicles, it could, but would need new vehicles.
