Title: Small track problem
Post by: wanderer28 on February 19, 2012, 01:20:35 PM
Hi all,

Just a small issue that's not very essential (or could be, depending on the situation):

I was wondering if train tracks could be connected together without all the possible connections (i.e. instead of a T-junction, a branch)?
Since I started playing Simutrans a few months ago, I had always thought that if a junction was to be made all the connections would be made possible. However a stroll to the Japanese fansite and I found out that
(http://japanese.simutrans.com/index.php?plugin=attach&refer=Addon128%2FRailTools%201&openfile=point.png)
branches are possible, according to the picture.

Could anybody tell me if this is possible? And if so, how do you go about doing it?

Thanks in advance.

The track must have all variations, and then they change as trains pass... If you plan your railway well, some combinations are never used, so they don't appear. Of course, only some (more recently made) tracks actually support this.

All? That may be reason why my experimental track for speed 280 km/h (with some special tiles that were added) does not allow using those special tiles as trains pass.

... because when I was preparing that track, I did not used some modifications of cross-crossings.

That was just a simplified description for users, not exact reference for addon makers :P But it might actually work that way.

New forthcoming Pak 128 tracks will be built that way.

I found that topic where I asked for those tiles that were added. It was topic New (missing) shapes of railway crossings (http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=7504.0).

I did not prepare crossing marked as NSEW1 and NSEW2 - but all other crossings yes. And track is not changed as trains pass. Crossings stay on basic shapes. It is strange if should be right what you wrote - that those two missing crossings should not effect behaviour.
