Title: My Homemake City Pak Discuss( Lighting )
Post by: ar3man on March 30, 2009, 02:24:29 PM
MODERATOR NOTE: This thread was submitted originally with the copyrighted works of other companies. If you accidentally post copyrighted work, the best thing to do is to come clean as soon as you realize your mistake. That's very important. If we have to confront you about a false claim, we'll try to be polite, the first time, and give you the benefit of the doubt. But if you make that "mistake" a second time, we may be less tolerant.

Let us define what we mean by "you work" vs. "others work".

If you find a building model on the internet, and tweak it - or even substantially change it - and get it to work in Simutrans, you MUST HAVE THE PERMISSION OF THE ORIGINAL AUTHOR. If you didn't start something completely from scratch, or if you used anything from someone else, you must have permission!

Sure, it's *unlikely* that an intellectual property owner will catch it and sue us, but you realize that if someone *did* sue, it might cause all sorts of difficulties for us, and even tear the community apart.

So at least some of us tend to be a little careful about intellectual property and copyrights.

By all means, if you get permission to use something - we're happy and thankful! But you should ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS credit anyone else for their work, AND you should always have permission to use anything you use.

(And please do make sure your permissions are known for anything you release to the community. Do you offer it with no restrictions to the Simutrans community? I hope so, but you should be clear on that :) )

Plx Comment and make Suggest ^^

all Building above is my work from getting resource in internet,3D model or image to make into Simutrans Pak in game
, pak made by myself for my gameplay used, there 30-40pak =v=, every single building no exception

My work only is put those building form internet to Simu , and lighting them, and see how well they fit in the game

(This Image and Word have been edited, That what my mistake totally early, my fault.
Those are not my work completely. Instead of my work, they are from internet and games )

I'm locking this topic for now, as I believe the screenshots contain copyrighted work that probably has no permission for use here. Depending on the results of my discussion with OP, the screenshots may be restored at a later date. -Isaac

I'm not a pak128 expert but woW! is the first word that came to my mind. Different styles, sizes but someway consistent. Some of them are wrong iluminated (east face instead of south face) but in general I like them.

Last two questions. Do they fit on pak128 official scale? and What did you use to paint them?

Many buildings are from SimCity 3000 in my eyes...
(The wrong iluminated buildings.)

(removed screenshots)

Please immediately clarify why your "original work" appears in screenshots of SimCity. Please do not take this request lightly, as this is a very serious issue.

It could be that he simply uses addon with buildings from simcity and they got mixed with his on the screenshot. I have already seen that kind of mistake once ruin someone's reputation...

So please do tell us quickly or you are stuck with your "all building my work" -> :(

Honestly, they are similar but not the same. Not reason for panic imho. Skyscrapers tend to look similar ...

The initial screenshot used contained at least two buildings that were pixel-for-pixel copies. His screenshots have changed since his initial posting.

So in other words, you didn't create these buildings from scratch yourself, you found resources on the internet and made them into Simutrans paks?

At this point, I absolutely know that the first screenshot you presented had at least two buildings from SimCity3000, and you clearly claimed all the work as your own. So at this point, I want to be absolutely crystal clear on precisely the nature of the work you did.

Where did each building come from? For each building, did you get permission from the original author to use them in Simutrans?

Let me be clear:
1. If there is truly permission to use in Simutrans, that would be GREAT. :-)
2. However, if there is not a very clear and very firm chain of permission, especially if you claim to have created something you did not, that is a very serious problem.

Ultimately, if it turns out there is merely misunderstanding on where the buildings came from, then please have no fear, there will be no problems with you. :-)

But at this point, from my perspective, this thread has consisted of you:
1. Clearly claiming authorship of copyrighted works
2. Updating screenshots and removing the buildings I found, still claiming authorship except that your wording makes it sound like you got the buildings from somewhere else, but you haven't shown that you got permission to use the buildings.

So at this point, there are still major concerns. But let's try to work through this. On the one hand, I don't want you to feel uncomfortable over a misunderstanding; of course on the other hand, I'm very protective of the community with the possibility the intellectual property owner might find this someday and sue us all.... I hope you understand that balance. :)
