Title: Cargo production?
Post by: pimate on December 29, 2019, 11:55:03 PM
Hello,
At first I would like to say that I am impressed with this game and by huge amount of work done by developers.
I am relatively new to Simutrans, I only palyed openttd before.. so I have started the game on 768x768 world and set up around the cities few passenger stations and bought horse coaches and sent them around and they're brining profits.
I wanted to create a cargo line between cattle farm and dairy, but realized that I am harldy getting any profit, rather that specific line is making me go bankprupt soon. I can see that cattle farm is producing only 4 units per month (4 x chums of milk), orchard is producing 33 crates of fruits in comparison though its still quite low compared to what I could see in the simutrans standard  version, when very often my trains were leaving full within 1 day and here it's very hard to even get one wagon full in month. As in standards these production values seem to go in hundreds per day.

So few questions...
1. Are these values considered as normal?
2. Is there any way to bump up production? I haven't seen anything like that in game settings)
3. Is there any official/unofficial discord channel? That would be very cool
4. Dont know if that is a bug, but when I am setting timelapse with "." key to ~120-150 my  carts very often get stuck and only putting time back to 1 and manually rescheduling them fixes that.

Freight balance is still very much a WIP for extended pak128 Britain. I recommend sticking to passengers and mail for now.

Welcome to the forums.

I notice that you seem to be using an older version of Simutrans-Extended, at least judging by the background to the dialogue, which was changed some time ago (unless you have changed the default theme manually to use the classic Simutrans theme?).

The agricultural production values are intended to be based on real world output, specifically, the productivity per area of land values (at least in the later versions - if you are using a very old version, you might get something different entirely). As in reality, farms, especially in earlier eras, had quite a low productivity compared with factories. Farms certainly do not justify an entire railway terminal to themselves; they are best served by road transport, at least to a central concentration point in a local town for forwarding by rail (in the earlier eras; in the later eras, just as in reality, you should be able to use road all the way).

Many thanks for replies...
I have realized that I was supposed to download the whole package from the server, instead of just pasting pakset and executable, hence the old GUI. I will stick my rail transport with the passengers for now. Also is there a discord channel?

Not so far as I am aware; does Discord offer many advantages over a forum such as this?

I would say it is better but it is more oriented towards more active people. It's something in between chat and forum I would say.

I think it would greatly encourage other people to try Simutrans.

Interesting. Can you elaborate on how it is better?

This forum is a longstanding feature of the Simutrans community and has a huge amount of important archival material. Any Discord channel would be in addition to, rather than instead of, this forum; but what specific advantages would having both bring over having just the one?
