And please report any desyncs, if you find them connected to a certain action. (I am trikky transport).

Please, do not password the public player.

I got desynched once, but I can't guess the reason for it. I was just moving (pan tool) the screen.

Once Simutrans Netgame doesn't have an in-game chat (or console command), the Simutrans Chat Channel (http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=1369.0) will be useful for real-time feedback.

EDIT:

I pressed the Fast forward tool. Is this bad?

EDIT2: Sorry. I need to leave. My duties are calling for me.

This is intended. The same goes for map rotation. While it is useful for me, it might disturb the other players, if the map gets rotated (fastforwarded etc) without good reason.

Since I changed the nightly to add two new tools, I need to update the server. However, since this is actually our server for the whole workgroup, I need to be caution and only supply well-working versions. Otherwise I would get into trouble ...

I think, it will be ready again tonight.

Title: Re: gift.physik.tu-berlin.de
Post by: prissi on September 13, 2010, 09:32:29 PM
No new desyncs, which is good news; but aparently the server crashed with any intervention (or was restarted), after all I am not admin on this machine.
Title: Re: gift.physik.tu-berlin.de
Post by: Dwachs on September 14, 2010, 05:04:03 AM
Do you have a log file of the crash? Frank's  log files of server crashes looks like the server went in an infinite loop of sending and receiving data to/from itself.
Title: Re: gift.physik.tu-berlin.de
Post by: prissi on September 14, 2010, 09:19:56 AM
No, this space on this server is very limited, thus no crashlog and no debug messages. MAybe the admin just killed it, since I have no priority here ...

How to join:
After you close the new world dialogue, just press 'n' and select a server from the list. Using the 'join' button you can join the game. Open the player dialogue and change to a player not yet claimed (i.e. with a greenh box). Click on the green box and set a password.

Not sure what happened. Also some player were able to send command that crahsed the server (i.e. start convois with no valid ids and other stuff). After two restarts the map was not readable any more.

Unfourtunately no system in those crashes so far :(

Thank you all testers. The game was stable for me for over 2 hours.

New, more challenging map (and also larger, again high land altering costs, no industry for initial financing).

Hello All

Im writing this topic in german for Wollywell. If you want to know it too than use google translator for a translation.

Hallo Wollywell

Genug geredet

I have checked and I have the correct Executable (r 4013) and pak file (r 334) and my internet connection is working, but simutrans has told me for the last 30 minutes that the server did not respond. I have tried restarting simutrans and my computer.

The server is restarted, but the server is close to its physical limit (two 400 MHz Pentium Pros, and after midnight a backup will be running.) Not sure how long it will be able to keep up.

As a warning: The server will not be available after friday 18h until monday 6h, since the university is physically moving its network node connecting (involving physical rerouting of 1200 fibre cables). Lets hope, the get them reconnected in time.

The server will be physically disconnected at Friday 18h. (At least the main gateway to tu-berlin.de) It might be an auxilary gateway still working.

I usually restart the game every five day to a week, to have at least a single server for gametesting.

I've downloaded latest nightly (today's) and latest pa64 (r341) But when i want to join the game it says that that i havent got the right pakset :o

Have others the same problem or am i stupid to put a simple pak set in the folder?

P.S: What means chat is saved?

Edit: Thanks Prissi :D. Now its going and i joined and made a player (if there is no probelm :P)
Title: Re: gift.physik.tu-berlin.de

You have to delete the old pak set. Do not copy over, as this will not generate the right data, as some files were removed. (The find mismatches will probably tell you, that Br45-tender is on client but not on server.)

And the server send games with version 110.0, which contains the message windows history (at least the last 2000 messages) THus it will contain a lot of the chat going on before actually joining the server.

@Xelofino I think you were deleted because you went bankrupt, which means that your net wealth dipped below zero. I noticed when playing last night that you were losing money each month, primarily because of high maintenance, and the fact that you did not connect with prissi's public station to send passengers elsewhere.

@TestTransport, do you plan to use your rail line? I am thinking of building a railroad south from Wipperfurth which would include some of your covered towns.

yesterday i connected and started playing. It didn't crash for a wile and than when i was near to complete my network and use more trains the server went down. After 10 minutes looking if something will happen i wrote in the forum and 1 hour later prissi restarted the server. Then i had to shut down the computer and went to bed because i must wake up at 6 o clock to go to school. It wasn't possible to make my network better because the server chrashed and when it was online again i could play. i worried what will happen but that i will be deleted it would never come to my mind.

Title: Re: gift.physik.tu-berlin.de

Hello. On December 27th, I will be on a trip away from an internet connection. This means that I will no longer be able to maintain my company, DBINF, Inc. Because I am the largest transporter by far on this map (605,411 passengers moved last year), and control most east coast assets, I will be happy to change my password and give the company to someone else to keep this game going. The company has revenues of over 15 million a year, has profits between 6 and 7 million a year, has over 70 million in the bank, has been in business since 1921, and has a pretty nice network. Please, if you are interested, reply here!

@rfg123 - Yes, I have had a large number of desyncs today as well. I don't know what is going on. (You are trikky transport, right?) I am also closing Neuss Transfer, so plan accordingly.

@prissi - I should have my network in hannover connected to the dock today, so you can remove your inner city network

Merry Christmas to all! Fifty.

Oh, sorry. Well whoever is Trikky should know that Neuss transfer is officially closed. Do you want my Eicholz-Oberhausen coal route? I don't really need it and it may come in handy for transporting passengers between your western assets and Zalbach.

Server appears to be down again, I am getting the usual "server did not respond" message.

On a side note, there seems to be some problems when two players things are on one tile. For example in Hannover, If someone has a bus stop, another player can build and run trams, but cannot remove the old tram tracks (But can remove the electrification). Another issue is when a way is under a bridge with removable pillars, the tile under the bridge cannot be deleted unless the other player removes the pillars. For both of these issues, the remove track tool does not help.

It looks more like a crash during save or load.

I desynced when trying to remove a taxiway. Upon rejoining, while the game was being transferred from the server, I went to maximize my window and hit the close button by accident. The client went unresponsive and eventually had to be killed. Afterwards the server was in whatever state you found above...

Was able to connect and make a few changes, but then got desynced (actually an internet problem on my end this time), and server appears to be down again. Don't know if it was caused by simutrans, but I got a blue screen of death on my computer; it had entered into sleep mode with simutrans open (But not connected to the server) and the BSoD occurred after exiting sleep mode and attempting to activate simutrans.

Server Down.

On a side note about desyncs, I was replacing many coal trains that were about 20 years old in game time, but I wanted to re-use some of the hoppers, so I sent some to depots. When I clicked 'disassemble' I got desynced every time, and when I returned to the game the convoy was disassembled. I had 6-7 trains to disassemble, and each one caused a desync.
Title: Re: gift.physik.tu-berlin.de
Post by: prissi on January 27, 2011, 01:07:02 PM
Since the server side has seen a lot of improvements including dragging building (like on normal games), restoring of line/schedule windows after joining, less desync and more test of client getting out of sync, I started a new game on gift with release 4229. The map is a little large (with some trees), so download may be slower. Please commetn also on that.

You can find the old game under http://www.physik.tu-berlin.de/~prissi/simutrans/server-network-final-25012011.sve

There is now also a second game running on port 13355, using pak.japan found here: http://www.physik.tu-berlin.de/~prissi/simutrans/japanpak64-110-nightly.zip I would by also glad for reports on playability of this set.
Title: Re: gift.physik.tu-berlin.de
Post by: TurfIt on January 27, 2011, 10:45:50 PM
The trees! They vanished...

Still early for many comments. Somebody appears to be joining, immediately discoing, and rejoining sending the server into an unresponsive state. i.e. the game pauses for 5+ minutes. When in this state, the game on port 13355 is also unresponsive. I presume the last instance of this required the server manually reset as it was down for a while - upon rejoining, all the trees are gone???

One glitch - creating a new line for ships, click at (221,383) adjacent to 'South Venice Church St. Meinrad dock' to add as a stop. 'South Venice central stop' (a bus only halt) is added to the ship line instead of the dock. Ship captain not amused.

Second glitch - creating a new bus line. Click to close the newly created schedule moments before someone joins. Poof - a blank schedule gets created instead. Bus driver lost.

Only one desync so far. Logged as checklist mismatch. No idea possible cause.

Download speed was fine with trees - ~2-3 seconds. ~1-2 seconds now that trees are gone - 10x smaller filesize yet minimal time impact.

Waybuilding frustrating. It isn't building differently server vs client anymore. It just doesn't build at all!. i.e. it takes 2-3 tries to get every segment built - using two click method.

I have been enjoying pak.Japan on the server, but there are quite a few graphical glitches. For example, the dirt road has stray white pixels, as does the rail crossing graphic. The steel rail bridge is slightly mis-aligned. Also, there does not seem to be a depot for trams or ships. There is no retirement date for the horse drawn vehicles, so once the horses are retired in 1960, you get a few vehicles still appearing that cannot be used. Nothing too serious though, still playable with these issues.

In terms of balancing, it seems to be good. I had a 60%+ margin on the current map, which is excellent considering the low volume and small towns. One thing that stands out is the classic rail bridge, it is too cheap to build, and its maintenance cost is way too high for the speed allotted.

By the way I love that stone rail tunnel..

Please report all glitches, as this was dormant for nearly two years at leats. I intend to fix most of them as fast as possible.

One player complained about taking about 5 min to download the map. So I removed the trees from the maps. The pak64 game was also crashed before removing trees.

Maybe you did not wait long enough? Ie after the second click the build command is sent to server and sent back to all clients. If your client is lagging behind the server, then it may take a while to complete the build command.
Title: Re: gift.physik.tu-berlin.de
Post by: TurfIt on January 29, 2011, 05:02:27 AM
It was the first click that I was having trouble getting recognized. Nothing to do with network mode - found my mouse jittering. If the mouse moves even one pixel between button press and release, drag mode rather than two click. Change mouse - problem gone. But, perhaps a little tolerance for a moving mouse would be good - press and release on the same tile - set a click, not drag.

City growth oddity - take a look at South Venice in the current game. pop 7346, unemployed 4285, homeless 1335. Grown from 2937 to 7346, but stuck at 44 buildings; Plenty of land to grow into...

That is the idea. However, the server may go off sooner or later for a while, since it really needs a fresh OS intsall (it run a 9 year old freeBSD ... )
