Title: Tourist attractions
Post by: Tomas on October 26, 2008, 02:55:21 PM
Hi,
i began draw one tourist attraction. It's inspired by Kunětická hora (http://www.aboutczechia.com/kunetickahora/).
It's not comleted.

Thanks for your comments.

Wow!

You'll need a mirrored version for rotating.
I'm eagerly waiting for the first colors. :D

Post by: sojo on October 26, 2008, 03:08:32 PM
When you use 2x3 or 3x2 than you have to draw 2 versions. North-South and West-East.

Or you use only 2x2.

I find the build very cool!!!!

Post by: VS on October 26, 2008, 03:50:02 PM
Nice!

Regarding rotations, you have three possibilities:
a) make it 3x2 - needs two versions,
b) make it smaller 2x2 - one rotation,
c) extend ground to 3x3 - add some souvenir stalls etc. around.

Hi!
thanks for your support :)

I continually working on castle, but lead me ideas :(

Thanks for your comments.

All right this time. This building will be great. But the no colored roof (house) is not ok.

Yes, i know  :(
But i don't know how i can paint eye-like roof :(

I wanted roofer for my castle!
Dead or alive (alive better :D)
No reward.

Title: Re: Tourist attraction(s?)
Post by: VS on October 27, 2008, 08:14:59 PM
Perfect!

(It does feel a bit empty - around the building is nothing at all - but maybe it is better in game.)
Title: Re: Tourist attraction(s?)
Post by: gerw on October 27, 2008, 09:25:46 PM
The shape is good but I don't like the mix of grey and white walls. Especially the part where the left grey wall joins the white house looks a little but strange. And the color of the tower's roof could be different.
Title: Re: Tourist attraction(s?)
Post by: IgorEliezer on October 28, 2008, 04:05:50 AM
Agreed.

1) You could either put more gray on white walls or more less gray on gray walls. There's too strong contrast.

2) A gray rooftop is not good. Use the same color/pattern that you used on other roofs. It's my suggestion.

;)
Title: Re: Tourist attraction(s?)
Post by: VS on October 28, 2008, 09:10:25 AM
The pattern was easy to make since it follows the straight lines. For curved surfaces, which translate to ellipses on screen (2d canvas), it's waaaaaay harder.
Title: Re: Tourist attraction(s?)
Post by: Tomas on October 28, 2008, 09:26:20 AM
VS have right. Towerhoof was really very hard.
But now is here next version of castle. Lighter stone wall, red tower hoof and rosegarden  ;D

Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle). Castles haven't grey walls but rather brown ones.

QuoteCastles haven't grey walls but rather brown ones.

Greyish brown or brownish grey I would say.

Point is, it's pak 96 comic, so colors are kept simple and not necessarily true to life. I like the castle as it is now. A really good job. Love to see more (hint ;)).
Title: Re: Tourist attraction(s?)
Post by: Spike on October 28, 2008, 10:42:02 AM
I like the castle too, in it's current colors. Even that castle walls are more brownish in real, most people have "stones are gray" in their head, and this will trigger the right associations.

The building needs to be reflected in the water imo.

Doors are 10px height × "normal" train is ???px

Cool! Is that a townhall?

But, it is too grey. You need more earth tones. The roof is too dark. And use less textures (at grey wall).

I think than can be great!

Good!
sojo: yes, this is Pilsen (hmmm, Pilsen Urquell :)) townhall.

TommPa9: green spirelet look small. Try to incorporate colors.
[cs]: zkus trošku zapracovat na barvách. Aktuální barevná kombinace není moc šťastná. Doufám že to ještě trošku vyladíš ;) Na zdi zkus místo té šedé dát nějakou okrovou a ty na ty cihly zkus barvu nabrat třeba z obrázku.

I try recolor it, on google is a lot of pictures this townhall, but his color look bad. I muss go make another photos of this one.

They buildings may not be perfect copy of original. On first place is: building muste be nice in game ;) Try to have some space for sidewalk. In real building stay in a line of houses. In game building stay self - you can draw windows on all sides.
Title: Re: Tourist attractions
Post by: sojo on November 16, 2008, 01:46:47 PM
In pak96.comic we have buildings who stand in line without windows at the side. But you can draw a little sidewalk in front of the building.

For example:

I haven't tried painting round things at the moment, but when painting buildings I make a template in 3d with autocad and paste it into ms paint. Perhaps trying that way it could be possible to make better circles.

This could be tourist attraction in pak96 too - while originally I prepare it to for pak128:

No texture on building surface (while it could be seen on landscape - but there it is so bad visible it is irrelevant).

I just gave it a try..... I hope I do not offend anybody with the try....

The "circle" on the right was the original one (as I think it was the circle) .....and my attempts are left and middle. I just tried to use most of the colors of the original but am not sure if it's right....you might do some repainting there....and also the center part.....if everbody finds the "circle" looking well enough.

So please respond on my attempt. If it's ok I know I can use it for future paintings and otherwise I must adjust it...

which one looks better. The left one or the middle one? I have another template with only three colors... with two colors you can see if you're looking at the outside or inside of the circle and the third color is used to point out where the 0, 90, 180 and 270 degree is of the circle and also the center...So please let know which you like best and I will post the right 3-color template.

For me, the circle still looks strange. But it's very hard to draw a circle in perspective. Even the famous Dürer, who used the perspective in arts first, failed, when drawing the ball in 'Melencolia I' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:D%C3%BCrer_Melancholia_I.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:D%C3%BCrer_Melancholia_I.jpg)) - it's not perfect wrt. perspective.

Now I got it! If you use rotation matrix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotation_matrix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotation_matrix)) to get the right perspective for the circle, you have to use
2 0
1 2.23

were 2.23 = sqrt(5)! You used 2 instead of sqrt(5).

Have a look at the picture.

The circle is a little bit too big in my opinion.
However, a have a tip.  ;D Just paint a "wall" in the size of the wheel. Then just paint the circle in the wall. Done. See below.  :)
