Title: Some good map generation settings
Post by: jamespetts on December 04, 2011, 02:56:28 PM
I was testing the next release, and found a rather good map number and settings for a large multi-player game, which I thought might be worthwhile to record/share:

Water level: -1

Map number: 5037
Size
West to East: 1724
North to South: 2816
Number of cities: 416
Number of big cities: 8
Number of city clusters: 6
City cluster size: 416
Median citizens per city: 2250
Intercity road length: 512
Industry chains: 192
Tourist attractions: 64
Use timeline from year: 1825 (this is the default; could probably work with any setting if desired, but this is a good starting year for Pak128.Britain-Ex)

Thank you for those! I shall have to look into them when I have time.

Concerning "Number of City clusters" and "City cluster size".

The placement seems to work better if these are smaller numbers than "Number of cities". If "City cluster size" is the same as "Number of cities", the game will only generate one huge cluster which spans the entire map, instead of making multiple smaller clusters. Smaller clusters also increases the chances of some cities being placed in the middle of nowhere, which is similar to how some mining cities are started.

Number of cities: 400+
Number of City clusters: 20
City cluster size: 20

seems to result in the most cities being placed in the middle of nowhere, which is around 6 to 10.

Water level: -2
Mountain height: +160
Map roughness: 5-6

Map #: 9021
Initially
W-E: 640
N-S: 256
Rotate 180 degrees
Then enlarge as much as one would like. Seems to be particularly good in East-West direction.

I just realized, but there's something wrong with the map generator. The map changes completely when W-E is set to higher than 640.
