Hi,

I started playing simutrans a few days ago (using pak128). And lately I did manage to build lines that do make profit. Unfortunatelly the profit is relatively small so I have to wait about 20 years until i even make up the construction and vehicle costs. Am i doing something wrong? What i did so far was simply connecting the power plants to its suppliers using trains (tracks and stations are the cheapest available). I started in the year 1930. Some screenshots of the lines i built are attached.
The operational profit per year is about 25.000,00. While the construction and vehicle costs sum up to about 500.00,00 now i have to wait 10 to 20 years until i can start building something again. What can i do better?

for 1, 2 and 3a, do your trains ever sit around waiting to fill up?
if they do, then you have too much capacity, and you should reduce the amount of convoys, or use another method for transportation.

Welcome to the forums!
Pak 128 is like that. Freight profit is nerfed compared to other paks. Real profit comes from passengers. If your starting line is making some money, use the cash to start some bus routes (so that you can take advantage of existing roads) and later expand to trains. If your coal line is losing money, make sure that the trains are running at full capacity (for example, remove one of the two trains and use orders to make sure that the other won't leave the station untill it's 100% full).

On a side note, you can use the edit button to add things to your original post.

About that detail, Lord Vetinari, he can't merge all because the maximum attachment size allowed is 64 KB per post, and some screenshots are bigger. It's an allowed double post but donna_wetta could have used external image hosting too.

No the size and amount of my convoys is chosen so they never have to wait to fill up.

Yes, the trains run always at full capacity.

Passenger transportation is good - but you need to build few lines of freight transportation at first - because in the beginning passenger transportation is not so powerful way to make money to you could use only it.

And how organize web of passenger transportation is described in some other topics - but I don't know exactly where - else I could give you links to those topics.
