In the expansion to the north, it was realized that Caringford would serve as a major hub to a the balloon peninsula. Originally, it was thought that Caringford would not require a canal at all, but after several years of being served by horse and carriage, it soon became apparent that no land connection could serve the hub adequately.

Once it had been decided that a canal was needed, a local novice engineer was hired. There were various rumours surrounding the reason a fledgling was hired, varying from experts, from afar, being unable to get a ride on overcrowded lines, to the company attempting to cut its expenses to a minimum. No one, except a few members on the business board, know the truth behind it and it may forever be kept a secret.

The Construction itself was quite fast, however due to a mishap in the local mail courier, the government did not receive the note to remove a road, until 8 months later. During this time, there was a walk known as the "Caringford march", where passengers were forced to walk 1km to reach the other side.

The story behind the meander also varies, however it is well documented that the land in and around Caringford is solid rock, so it is thought that the engineer had to go around an impassible boulder. This has, however, resulted in a key attraction to Caringford that attracts many to visit.
