Hi,

I have intended to make a series of trains pak set in New South Wales, Australia. The first one is the Outer Suburban CARriage (OSCAR). Which is the one on below:

(c) Sydney Trains

I love to travel by OSCARs, so I made it the first pak attempt. However, although I am nearly finished, I encountered some problems. For example:

  • My graphics look unrealistic, but my ps skills are no good
  • When the vehicle turn round, it does not appear
  • How can I make the UI icon in the depot better? I have no idea yet.

Here is my pak graphics

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7P_wM94FdtIVVA0TmhUbVlzRkU/edit?usp=sharing tail carriage
and my pak and .dat file

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7P_wM94FdtIVDJ5dmlYZFNqZzA/edit?usp=sharing pak file

By the way, I forgot. Only the first and last carriage is made at the moment.
Edit: I have uploaded the motor carriage.

On your picture, train seems to be very big ? I think it's too much for pak 128 size.
It's an interesting work, i hope wou will realize a beautiful simutrans model !

It takes a while to get the hang of drawing isometric pictures as needed in simutrans. I can only suggest using existing vehicles as templates.

To:gwalch, I made the big train sizes is because the trains in pak 128 are too small on the track, also it is a double deck train :D

P.S. I have read somewhere that this is why Japanese make their own pak edition with bigger trains, I like this idea.

To:kierongreen, I will edit my train graphics with better image, using your method.

Pak128 has a standard train size, you have to fit your train in, else your train would look weird in game. I attached an example file from one of my addons for you to see what I am talking about ;)

There's a second mistake on your picture : Simutrans'objects are rendered or drawn in isometric perspective while you used real perspective : your train won't look good in game.

Pak128 have its size of trains and I don't think it is going to change, though, if you like bigger trains, there are other paksets which have bigger ones as you said ;)

Thanks, everyone. I am using your opinion(s) to change my train set to be more standardised.

New changes as at 24/07/2013
see the first post to download, but I can tell you that I:

  • make the train carriage much smaller, although it is bigger than the standard carriages
  • there are some graphical problems, but if you can suffer the white line, it is usable

However, I have not test with stations and passengers with OSCARs.

gauthier

The white line is a problem, though it is very easy to remove (I suppose two or three seconds). You are doing a great work but there is still much to do. Currently, the most annoying problem is perspective. A picture is better than a long explanation :

Simutrans uses oblique parallel projection (left picture) while you are using perspective (right picture).

Excellent work for a first attempt. My attempt of a Tangara (Sydney Trains, formally Cityrail) in the original black Tangara livery failed so badly that i didn't even bother saving it. So much for my attempt for a Pak 128 Australia. If I do eventually restart the project would you be interested in a collaboration?

anyways great work
