It's going to be another month or two before my little income extra starts coming in again; but meanwhile, I'd like to have one more drive for donations for the server. I think this will keep us set through November/December or so - and I hope to have more income coming in by then, so this might be the last push I have to make. :)

Meanwhile... donations are definitely open and requested.

Some of you that make huge donations make me feel very guilty for asking. So let me reiterate that this isn't an emergency. However, things remain a little on the tight side for me - and as we're moving servers, having two servers up means upwards of two server payments for just this month (prorated)...

So I'm not begging, but definitely enough to go ahead and post a request.

Also, any ideas on how to make this more widely known without spamming everyone? Last time, it was suggested that I make a bigger deal out of it - but I really don't want to spam. heh.

As always, open to feedback, suggestions, and questions.

You can make a donation here via Paypal:

I haven't gotten the donations from this latest push posted, but I will soon. Meanwhile: Donations are officially closed. I am involved in a business that - although has not quite yet seen real money come in, already has projects in the works that will lead to real money.

In other words, it pleases me to announce that my financial situation will be improving shortly, and I will be quite pleased to go back to my original arrangement, which was to host Simutrans for free as a part of my business. (Well, business never took off until finally now...)

Honestly, I think you should still accept donations.  This is only my opinion, but you should not have to carry all this responsibility, it is clear there are plenty of people out there willing to support the sites as well.

Sorry to bump this topic after more than a decade, but it seems like a good place.

Every so often, someone contacts me about donations for server hosting. While I appreciated help in times past when hosting was more expensive and my life generally more chaotic, I wanted to post somewhere out of the way about the current situation:

The server right now is $45/mo, with the control panel at $10/mo. $55/mo is a cost I can completely handle - and there is one persistent person who donates $10/mo already, so it's $45/mo that I can easily handle, especially since I host my personal sites on the server as well!

(Well, okay, there is a $15/mo backup server as well, so that is $60/mo that I can handle, even currently between jobs)

So hopefully anyone searching for information about donations will see this. :)

If anyone is determined to want to help - if you need web hosting, talk to me. lol. But I never want to profit from hosting this community. It is a joy and privilege for me to do so, and I already get far more praise than I deserve, especially since it's the many people programming, doing development, working on so many projects for Simutrans, whereas I'm just very visible and do little. So if you really want to help, contribute graphics and coding or work on projects for the benefit of the community. <3

Hi Isaac,

and thanks for sharing the current situation.
This is in deed a topic, I was wondering about some time already.
I would gladly contribute to the upkeep costs of the community servers and forums.
Picturing all the different services, like the tikiwiki, this forum, the Germen and Japanese ones, all the technical services as  steam, sourceforge , github of course, and there most certainly still are some left out which i'm not aware of...

I'm happy, there are so many individuals gladly bearing all the different expenses, but I would just like to signal, that I, like others surely too, would be willing to help support the costs on a long-term.
Even though I do modestly, I happily can offer $5-10 a month.

I understand from other treads concerning this topic, that contributing money is not that easy of a matter.
So I won't insist nor try to shake on a stable system.. just want to share my intention, and if any occasion comes up, please tell.

PS: of course I also try to follow the exemple of many others before me, and contribute by more hands-on approaches as translating and even humbly started drawing
