Just a dumb question:
When my city grows, the AI is sometimes building normal buildings but tourist buildings too (statues...).
Mostly these statues are encased by roads, they take away space for other buildings.
Lots of roads...

Do these buildings (statues...) have to be connected to a road to generate mail and passengers or do they just have to be in range of a bus station?

Because right now I am removing all unnecessary roads...

They have to be in range of a station (bus, train or whatever is irrelevant). Passengers are supposed to walk to the station and they don't need roads for that.

I guess the reason why monuments are surronded by roads is because they tend to be in real life. As in real life, they are supposed to stand out, and not be hidden sandwiched between two to seven, possibly tall, buildings. It has nothing to do with the game mechanics, except that removing these roads take away the real life challenges of dealing with urban development that has to think of other things than making it easy for transportation companies.
