Goods transport w/o convoys.

There's a feature that I remember seeing in simutrans, but haven't tested it in a while - if it no longer exists, please let me know.
If two linked Factories are close enough together, you can build a station covering both factories. If that station has cargo capacity, the factory that produces a good will transfer it into the station, and the one that consumes it will transfer them out, without any need for conveys.
Does this feature have a name? I couldn't figure out what to search for.
As I remember, this kind of transfer was somewhat unreliable - it wouldn't necessarily transfer the full amount of the good that could be produced by the producer and consumed by the consumer. My question is, what determines how rapidly goods will be transferred by this means? Would it go faster if the station had a larger cargo capacity?
Since the player is playing as a transport company that makes no profit on goods that move without the help of a convoy, this might seem a weird thing to be interested in. However, if the factories are that close together, you're not going to make much profit anyway, so not having to set up a convoy to serve them could be convenient.

Afaik this feature is still present. Cargo is transferred quite fast. Not instantly, so that you can see it for a short while waiting on the station. But usually faster than it can be produced or consumed. I consider this feature quite useful, and think of such station working as conveyor belt or pipe connecting the factories. You can still make money on transporting the primary and final products. Even the middle product can be transported to some other factory.

Walking.

The goods are walked from source to destination because they are so close.

The transfer rate is infinite and instant.

The transfer is instant independent on capacity. As long as the stop accepts that sort of cargo it will transfer infinite amounts instantly.

This is fully supported and works perfectly. It has done so for at least 2 years. I even used it to test JIT2.

This would only happen with producers which make more product than can leave the factory. Producers distribute every second in limited amounts, if the production exceeds this distribution rate it becomes impossible to transfer enough product. No factories in pak64 and pak128 produce anywhere near enough for this to be a problem.
