It seems as though a new type of road surface is currently under development using waste plastic to replace much of the bitumen used in asphalt mixes: see here for details.

Apparently, these new "plastic roads" are currently under trial in Cumbria, and, if successful, are likely to be used more widely. They claim to be more hard-wearing than roads made with only bitumen as a binding agent, although it is not clear whether the initial construction cost is more or less.

If these become successful, I will have to add them to the pakset, although, given that they look the same as existing roads so far as I can tell, it might be difficult to differentiate the graphics.
