I wonder whether somebody should establish a non-profit organisation entitled "The Simutrans Foundation" or similar to hold net profits from the sale of merchandising, which could be used to go towards hosting servers, etc.?
Of course, this will only be worthwhile if a significant number of people actually are interested in buying things like this.
