Factory Supply/Demand
« on: July 16, 2019, 07:35:57 PM »
I am running on big maps (5400x3000) and due to long supply chains it is difficult to manage factory demand. When  factories reach a certain stock level they stop demanding input. By the time the start to reorder, they will run out of stock WAY before new shipments can come in. this means factories will run idle for longer periods of time

Would it be possible to add a "Warehouse building to the game". a Warehouse that will hold a certain amount of goods, and that can be linked in between factory and raw material. It could work sort of as buffer stock. once linked, factories will call of raw material from the warehouse, and the warehouse will in turn call of raw material from linked suppliers.

i am thinking the connect factory funtion in the map editing tool as public play can be used to set this up manually

Maybe consider another mode for the just_in_time setting, which tries a more gentle phasing in and out of demand may help you.

JIT2 mode can help reduce the issue to some extent, as long as the factory has enough input storage space for a couple of shipments.
