Industries shutting down query

Can these industries shut down and repurposed as another industry?

I have split this from this topic as this query does not directly relate to that which is discussed there.

To answer the question, industries can and do shut down after their retirement date has passed. They can either be upgraded to a new industry specified in the .dat files or shut down entirely.
