Timed interval not behaving as I expect.

I have set up a single track circular elevated rail route around a town. I was using a dual-locomotive train with a one train staff for a while and that all worked fine but I decided it was time to try timed signals and break it into 2 trains. However I'm experiencing problems making them work.

As I understand it, the signals should be danger for 5 minutes, then caution for 5 minutes more for half track speed, but beyond that they should be clear and allow my trains to follow each other at full speed. Instead most of them show danger no matter how long since the last train passed, even though only one of them is protecting a junction, until a train approaches at which point it switches to caution and allows the train to proceed at half of the track's 80km/h speed limit. Only one of them reads clear and lets trains go at full speed.

Signals are placed on the exit of stations and are intended to clear the train to the next station (though it doesn't make a difference if I put another signal before the destination station). When I turn block reservation visualisation on it looks like the trains just reserve a chunk of track through the signals, except on the one that's working properly, idk if that has something to do with it. Here are some screenshots of the behaviour:

Edit: Maybe this should have gone in the subforum, I didn't notice it till now, my bad.

Are the incriminated signals directly followed by a junction? Time interval signals placed directly before a junction will show danger by default and will switch to caution when a train approaches and the track ahead is clear within sighting distance.

Only one signal is protecting a junction, there is only 1 junction on the entire track (leading to the depot).

Is there no other signal before the next station? I can't remember right now but it could be that what I explained about junctions also applies to stations.

So playing around a bit with signals before stations, I seem to have gotten it working. But I did see a bug report about this when I was searching for answers and I think this it said this was fixed, I guess maybe not.
