What are you listening to?
« on: September 09, 2021, 04:39:20 PM »
When I was a bit younger and frequented more forums, I was frequently in charge of the leisure activities of some of them. So I'm a bit sad to see that the discussion on the Simutrans forum is practically only composed of serious development discussion.

Let's change that a bit, while getting to know one another better! One of the most interesting things about engaging with other people is getting to know the things they like - and out of them, the music you like is one of the most enriching things you can exchange.

So, what are you listening to now? What's that cool song that you can't get out of your head...? I'll start myself.

Since the ABBA fangirl I am, I can't stop listening to their last "euro-disco" hit they released now after the 40-year break is finally over. They sound exactly like you would expect from them 40 years ago - it is like time has not passed for them!

P.D.: To keep things clean, try to post no more than 1-2 songs per post. Thanks!

OK, my interest is quite diverse. I like a lot female voices (or good singers too) with many acoustic instruments. Also folk and medivial and electronic, as well as classical music at least 150 years or older ...

Two unusual dig outs:

I love military marches like John Philip Sousa (Stars and Stripes Forever, Liberty Bell, Semper Fidelis, The Washington Post and others), I'm also a fan of Johnny Cash and Queen (I'm a huge Queen fan). I also like classical music one of my favorites is Tchaikovsky's 1812. Recently, I've been getting into Big Band's from the 1930s and '40s like Glenn Miller.

Here's a good Semper Fi: https://www.marineband.marines.mil/Audio-Resources/The-Complete-Marches-of-John-Philip-Sousa/Semper-Fidelis-March/

I have music I don't like, and then I can listen to the rest, which is a rather wide, but not entirely contiguous, range. During all these months of working from home, I've been listening more than usual to a couple of rock radio stations, as they mostly avoid the kind of songs I don't like, while at the same time giving me som variation without having to do anything. Except switching channels when they do put on a song I don't like. (Or a particularly annoying commercial, of which there has been quite a lot recently, leading up to election day today.) In general, I might not listen so much to music as other people.

Beautiful!

Currently, I'm listening to this [Epica Beyond the Good the Bad and the Ugly]

I liked this very much, it's in my head now...

I also like classical music. And I like videogames. So I like when videogames make use of classical music! Two years ago I finished "Pandora's Tower" (Wii). The OST for the game is built around "Liebesträume" (but singed in Japanese), which is used for key moments and boss fights. "Elena Singing" is an example of one of the calmer (and beautiful) versions:

The boss version is of course more epic, but also too epic to listen to it in any moment :-P

Another game that makes great use of classical music is "Little King's Story" (Wii originally and now also PC). For this game, "Original" Soundtrack is not the right term, because everything is actually a piece of classical music re-arranged! Usually with a funny take, since the game is pretty comical. One of my favourites is the "Primetime Kingdom" main theme, that is actually a part of "Rhapsody in Blue" (although that can barely defined as classical music, or at least not classical music prissi would like as it is not over 150 years old, lol).

Every other phase theme of the "Primetime Kingdom" is also based on a different part of "Rhapsody in Blue", which is pretty cool.

Talking about videogames, which are your favourite songs from videogames?

And if you need something really epic to boost your productivity, good old Warcraft 2 :

I'm into way too many kinds of music.
Right now I have a lot of modern German rap in the rotation, as well as progressive and psy.
But that's really a thing of my mood, in a month I could be a goth, and another month later I might be into French Pop or Reggae.

Something more progressive:

Edit: The music is almost always the first thing I turn off in video games, so I can't tell you if there's any good I like.

German rap huh? Interesting. Though I was watching an anime and they were doing Japanese rap and at the end of each episode with the credits, there was a music video. I enjoyed Initial D and it had a fantastic soundtrack with 90s and 80s style music. I had no idea the Japanese liked rap. I like rap myself, just not anything new, I like the old school stuff.
