A new version of Simutrans-Experimental is now available, fixing a number of bugs identified in previous versions, and also incorporating new features from the trunk of Simutrans-Standard, including, of particular note, the new 3d cursor discussed here. For more information on how to get Simutrans-Experimental, see here. There is also a slightly modified new version of the configuration files available.

Changes

  • FIX: Average speed calculations inaccurate when a convoy was waiting for a load at a stop.
  • CHANGE: Improved efficiency in code re-setting paths after a change in lines or schedules.
  • FIX: Waiting times did not load properly when a game was reloaded.
  • FIX: Removed duplicate code
  • FIX: Incorrect counting of time before paths and connexions are recalculated.
  • CHANGE: Made the fixed list template more efficient (Knightly)
  • FIX: Pathing counter not reloaded correctly.
  • FIX: Removed redundant/old code for refining the routing mechanism.

Feedback and testing

Sincere thanks once again to all of the beta testers who have been helping to improve Simutrans-Experimental so much by your efforts. Again, a particular mention goes to Knightly whose tireless pursuit of bugs and inefficiencies is extremely impressive. As ever, any feedback on this version would be very much appreciated, including bug reports, gameplay/balancing issues and any idea of how the different features of Simutrans-Experimental affect game play strategy (and whether for better or for worse). Happy experimenting!

Hello, welcome to the forums! Thank you for your interest in Simutrans-Experimental. It is possible to use any pakset designed for Simutrans-Standard with Simutrans-Experimental, although not all of the features of Simutrans-Standard (such as variable comfort ratings or loading times) will be available. There are currently no release versions of fully compatible paksets, with all of the features, although there is, I believe, an early pre-release version of Pak192.Comic with the comfort settings used, and I am hoping in due course to release a fully compatible version of PakBritain.

In the meantime, however, you can use Simutrans-Experimental without difficulty with a standard pakset, such as Pak128: just make sure that you also download the configuration files.

It all looks very cool, I am just looking forward to when on of the paksets will have all the features available.

So am I! If you'd like that to happen faster, then you could always offer to help out - it's only a small team working on PakBritain at the moment, so any help would be much appreciated :-)
