Daikon Ocelot

Hmm... well, I doubt anyone will read or even see this, but I am just going to write an introduction anyway. Nothing wrong in leaving a mark or two.

So, you can call me Daikon, Ocelot, or any other name you want associated with it. I like all kinds of vehicle, both civilian and military. Seeing them in action is just awesome. I always think that every vehicle has their own personality, like if they're elegant, brave, hard-working, nerdy, or many other. I even like to imagine what would they look like if they're a girl or boy!!

Ahem, sorry, I guess that's kinda weird. My imagination could get a little "wild" sometimes, but I am quite proud about it. Anyway, nice meeting you all!

Matthew

Welcome to the forum, Daikon!
(Signature being tested) If you enjoy playing Simutrans, then you might also enjoy watching Japan Railway Journal

如果您喜欢玩Simutrans的话,那么说不定就想看《日本铁路之旅》(英语也有简体中文字幕)。

Hi everybody, glad to finally be part of the forum aswell
I play simu occasionally since + 15 years.  Mostly I continue an old save game every now and then and start a new map only so and so year  :::)
I just love to get a "flexible" network with all the vehicles I can afford (land, water, air ... you know  ;D  ;D ) and an good revenue about 30%. That's what I aim for.
What's your goal in simu?

Welcome!

I haven't played the game recently, but I come to see the forum regularly.

I've recently been slightly obsessed with the design of transfer stations. I've been trying to think how to design them for busses in particular:

- All lines (from a large city) go to the transfer station
- Ideally, they wait a little while to make sure there are some passengers so they're not empty, but the rest of the line isn't overflowing waiting either
- Ideally, there's room for multiple busses to stack waiting, another reason to make sure they're partly filled - to space them out

I don't think I'm a good or wise player, frankly, but i'm still working on it.

One innovation I did recently come up with, though: Putting a stop at the entrance to the transfer station so passengers will drop off before the bus gets to its waiting stop. That prevents one deadlock situation of two busses arriving with passengers that are needed for two waiting busses, bu the waiting busses block the tiles of the stop so nobody is ever unloaded so nobody can be loaded and send those busses on heir way. lol.

Also it annoys me that so much land is required for a transfer station since the conflicting scales in Simutrans make it a bit silly. My transfer station is half the size of the large city, it seems like. lol. Especially when I have to fence around it so it stays free of city traffic :)

I realized recently that instead of a choose sign at the entrance, I need to make one bus stop per line, with enough cleared space (i.e. 2-4 tiles of road) so busses can line up behind, based on the number of busses per line.

I wish there was some way of telling a bus: "If you can pick up people at this tile of the station, do so and move on. Otherwise, use a choose sign to find a free station tile to wait at" as then they would all use the entrance stop and leave if there were passengers, or go find a place to wait without blocking traffic if not. But I don't want to think what a nightmare such a thing would be to program - and even set up in game. heh

Place the choose sign after the entrance stop with a one way road?

Absolutely. The land demand can quickly become insane lol  ;D

So, what have you come up with so far? Would you mind sharing a snippet of your work?  ;)

What about you Prissi?
What's your current passion/obsession? Have you even time left to play a map, besides admin and developing und such? (thx for the 124 release btw :D I'm, so happy)

PS: Same question goes out to you, Isaac. How do you manage to have time for transfer-station-thinkering, besides moderating and so on?  ???

prissi

Sorry FLN,
Somehow I failed to add you the regular member group as it seems to have gone missing. It seems all your posts need moderation. I have moved you to the _can_send_PM group. Maybe that will help. It is not our intention to moderate you ...

TO you answer, admin and developing is 95% of the little time I can devote for Simutrans.

Ulysses

Nice to meet you all!
Please call me Ulysses.
I run the 'Simutrans-interact-meeting.', a Discord server for Simutrans players and developers.
It is a server for all pak sets and all nationalities.

PAK is playing pak128.japan.
We also make add-ons.
We have a miscellaneous collection of add-ons such as robots, baseball stadiums, BritishRail train add-ons, etc.

I am working through automatic translation...
I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Welcome to the Simutrans International Forum, @Ulysses and @FLN !

How did you find out about Simutrans?

Ulysses

I discovered Simutrans after watching one of the play videos on the Japanese video site Nico Nico Douga.
It was very interesting to see how the city buildings and various types of traffic were advanced (in many ways) quite freely as the development progressed!

Here's that video.

Hi Roboron and thanx for your welcome.

Oh my! ... So many years passed since i got to know Simutrans  ;D  But i'm quite confidant that i downloaded it along some other games (including open TTD), after reading an article about worthwhile freeware simulation games on a german computer & gaming site..
I'm honestly not sure if it was way back in 2005 or later. Nah, I now looked it up! and it truly was late 2005, release 0.87 it was, I still remember  ^-^  ^-^
How many hours of gaming joy since then I must have spent with Simutrans   :o  :o

Anyways, Simu has then been the only one of the bunch I downloaded, which did catch me. I couldn't really get myself interested much for open TTD or the other games, even if some graphics looked more appealing to me. But Simutrans just didn't let me go, even two weeks later! And yet, I (still) didn't have a clue, how it worked or what I was doing  :::) It was demanding but also fun, and so I kept on trying and testing, and after awhile I curated a map with swooshing, 16-waggon-long coal and ore trains and and small little light blue buses crawling thru more and more buzzing cities, ow what joyful nostalgic memories
