Hi Everybody

I'm currently crating my first vehicle object and got really far thanks of all the threads in the forum and especially the documentation in the tikiwiki :)

Now after creating the pak-file and inserting it in the corresponding pak-folder, it did not show in the game.
I tried out different things and could boil it down to the date of retirement. Trams retiring on June 1930 or before, will not appear in-game, such retiring from July onwards do.

As I created a tram, inspired by the very first tram-line inaugurated in 1881 and retired in 1913, I'd like to reflect this historic dates on my vehicle as well.
Does anybody know about this "date-restriction" and if I could do anything to readjust it?

Further I wanted to ask, how i could make overhead lines appear from 1881 onwards?

As always, thank you for you help =)

Probably you mispelled the intro or retiring entries? Can you post your dat-file?

Also there are trams from before, like the horse-drawn tram.

About the caternary, you take it from pak64 source from sourceforge https://sourceforge.net/p/simutrans/code/HEAD/tree/pak64/way/ in rails.dat under "SlowOverheadpower". This is from 1900. You need to change that intro_date.

Sure. I also append the corresponding pak-file.

I don´t know

Do you mean "tram_track"

Right. But after having trouble getting the new vehicle to run, I changed it back to "schiene_tram", as it was in the T13's dat-file, which I took for template.
But eater way seem to work (except for the retire date, as mentioned).

edit:
But you're right, I should change it to the current standard.

It appears properly in 1910 in a testgame in pak64 in the electric tab. Maybe the depot was not electrified?

That sure is a very good probable cause, but at any checke, I used the 'List of all vehicles' to confirm it's "existence", even used the fiter-function, so to not overlook it inadvertently.

I do have two Simutrans stables installed r11400 and r11590, as non-portables.
In the former one I copied the pak and the pak64.german in to the simu-folder and added "experimental" to the their folder-names, such as to further test my pak-file(s).
In both stables the vehicle won't show until retirement date exceeds June 1931.

Is there anything local, that could influence this behavior? Like in the simuconf.tab, menuconf.tab, settings.xml or mayby the compat.tab or so?

Right, but both, horses and wagon, don't retire until 1960.

The procedure I ran trough to narrow it down to the retirement value was, to use the 'T13's' dat-file from sourceforge -parallel to my own tram's one- pak it-> test it-> alter some values-> pak it-> test it and so on.
Afterwards I did also experiment by altering the introduction date, for to exclude the duration of the model-live was issue.
Also I advanced the retirement date to other years like 1890 or 1899, which made no difference.
Andarix also kindly tested my pak-file on his system. And he got literally mixed results  On his pak64.german installation the tram showed up... but on the regular pak not  :::)

edit: (I forgot to mention before, he also placed the file in the addons-folder, and that's how he got it to work... At my installation it didn't neither way)

What I'm gone do right now, is to deinstall my two Simu-installations, and, after a reboot, reinstall them and see if anything changes.
I then will immediately report my findings back here. At least so I can further exclude system/installation related reasons for this odd pattern.

edit:
No changes found  ???

That pap you provided showed up in when placed in addons for pak64. Also, in most current simutrans nightlies, you can add "-debug 0p" and it will print a dat file like entry with everthing simutrans has recognized of that vehicle.

Current simutrans stores its pak folder in Windows under "C:\Program Data\Simutrans" If you put it anywhere else, it won't be found ...

Hi prissi,

I'm sorry for creating a small confusion...
Quote from: FLN on February 20, 2025, 01:44:34 AMhe also placed the file in the addons-folder
This meant: "he also placed the pak in the addons folder, additionally to a copy in the standard Simutrans-folder".

Just there.

I, by the way,  tried the possibility of loading the pak-file along other addons as well, but had no luck.

Thank you for that input and the support. I will happily try this out and hope for any new clue.

Mystery is solved... Apparently all this time, I was just to dump to toggle the 'Show obsolete' box, when calling up the 'All vehicles list'.

I'm so ashamed, I don't want to talk to myself for at least a day (if I only could) =S

Sorry folks for trying to make you solve an inexistent problem. *sigh*

Why the vehicles showed up after July 1930?

Cause 1930 is the default spawn time for new maps and a new (very small) map is generated each time I lunch the game, where I looked up the 'All vehicles list'
Assumingly vehicles retiring in the first 6 months of the map-creation-year will not be shown in the list, hence this 'pattern'.

prissi

No, the new map starts often in June to have a less depressing map view.
