AEO - where does that log file come from?

I think bzip2.dll is not installed

waerth

It is installed with me :/

@james

it's the built-in error logger in winXP.
usually you have to hunt for it in temp files.

and bzip2.dll is in there.

Hi James,

I'm sorry to also have to report a similar issue (formerly known as a Dr Watson) in two scenario's.

1) With Simutrans 102.2.2 and Simutrans-Ex 7.2, using the Simutrans-Ex supplied Simuconf.tab, it triggers a Windows XP error and closes right at the start. However, this does not reproduce with the Simuconf.tab supplied with Simutrans Standard 102.2.2.

2) With Simutrans 102.2.2, Simutrans-Ex 7.2 and Pak.Britain 0.5, at the start of a new map, using the Simuconf.tab of Simutrans Standard 102.2.2, but regardless of which Simuconf.tab is put in Pak128.Britain-Ex\Config. However, this does not happen with Pak.Britain 0.4.

I'm sorry I can't be more specific at this time. If you'd like some more specific information, please instruct me to get it for you and I'll see what I can do.

jamespetts

Thank you everyone for your feedback. May I ask that any bug reports in future be posted in their own thread - it is much easier to find them there.

As to this particular issue - it is not one that I can readily reproduce. Check that you have bzip.dll in the same directory as simutrans.exe, make sure that you have the MSVC++ redistributable file installed, and, if that fails, try deleting settinges-experimental.xml in the /My Documents/Simutrans folder.

Please let me know whether that works for you - thank you again for the report!

okay, deleting settings-experimental.xml solved the crash on startup issue for me.
thanks james.

Hi James,

bzip.dll made no difference to me. Also, there was no previous settings-experimental for me as I made a clean install (using the Online Installer for Simutrans 102.2.2). I may have missed something about the MSVC++ redistributable file, but by now I got things to work.

I also have an update on the reproduction scenario with the Pak.Britain-Ex. It seems the trouble I have is only with the BritIndustry.pak file. If I use that file (only) from Pak.Britain-Ex 0.4, and all other files from 0.5, everything works fine (of course if I only use Simuconf.tab from my earlier Simutrans-Ex installation of 7.1.

If you could tell me the differences (new settings) in Simuconf.tab between 7.1 and 7.2, I may be able to isolate the precise setting that causes the problem in my reproduction scenario for that one.

jamespetts

DoR,

thank you for your further feedback. I'm afraid that I can't remember now what the changes were to simuconf.tab between 7.1 and 7.2. The problem with the industries is a load/save problem - I think that Bernd is looking into that.

Thank you very much for your report!

Hi James,
Thanks for repairing the link for downing Makeobj.exe.
Please give that exe a name including a versionnumber like MakeobjEx87 (like prissy does)

I also downed Exp7.2 (2024 kB) and Pak128.Britain-Ex.zip (30.602 kB)
Extracted them both and put them in a folder.
Thr result is NOT running.
I have the feeling of missing something.
Exp7.2 gives only 4 files: bzip2.dll, how to get, and 2 exe-files.
Pak128 gives 4 folders (config,doc,sound,text), 27 .pak-files, 1 compat.tab and 1 demo.sve

Compared to Exp6.6 I miss in the top-folder: maps, text and font.

What do I have to do? Copy them from Exp6.6?
AvG

Edit: I copied the 4 folders form 6.6 into 7.2. Now the game is starting but crashes after using the start-button.

AvG,

you will also need the configuration files, which can be downloaded us (site down, do not visit) ]/simutrans-experimental-config.zip]here (the link is on the "How to get Simutrans-Experimental" page). Do let me know how you get along!

the linked configuration files do not solve the crash on create new map or load save game.
only seems to happen with pak BR05 experimental.

does not crash when starting a new map in pak BR04 ex, but does crash with loading a save game. This load crash is giving a similar error messages to what neroden has reported in "and another crash bug...." thread.

AEO,

thank you very much for your report, and apologies that it is still not working for you. I am currently away for a few days, and not able to look at the code, but I suspect that the problem is related to the factory fields issue that has been reported elsewhere. I shall be working on producing an updated version (7.3) with just bug fixes to 7.2, which I shall release when I can. Thank you again for your reports, and apologies that you have had trouble.

Update: Thank you everyone for your patience. There seem to be several different issues here. Firstly, there are some problems with the settings-experimental.xml configuration files: Bernd Gabriel is kindly looking into that: see here for details. Secondly, the problem that is specific to Pak128.Britain-Ex 0.5 is caused by the fact that that pakset was compiled with the latest version of Makeobj-Experimental, which has a bug (which I have not yet managed to trace or fix, but am working on it), which means that fields are not properly encoded: see here for details. AvG's problem, I think, has been solved (lack of certain things in configuration files), and I plan to take up the suggestion made in another thread and bundle those with the configuration files.

Thank you all for your patience!

Hopefully, this issue has been fixed with Simutrans-Experimental 7.3 - the latest release. Thank you everyone for your patience!
