[New Release] Simutrans-Experimental 8.1
« on: June 06, 2010, 05:52:16 PM »
A new version of Simutrans-Experimental is available to-day: Simutrans 102.3 Experimental 8.1. See here for more information on how to download, install and set up the latest version. For those already familiar with the installation and setup, here are some quick links:

Simutrans-Experimental 8.1 is a bugfix release, dealing with a number of issues reported in Simutrans-Experimental 8.0. It does not incorporate many of the GUI changes from the latest versions of Simutrans-Standard, which are not fully stable yet, but does incorporate a few of the more critical fixes from Simutrans-Standard. Here is a list of the changes:

  • FIX: consequently connect canals to sea (Dwachs)
  • FIX: Crashes in Makeobj (Dwachs)
  • FIX: segfault when building elevated ways. (yobbobandana)
  • FIX: Elevated ways should be cheaper over owned ground as for non-elevated ways. (yobbobandana)
  • CHANGE: Updated the credits
  • FIX: Errors (crashes in Linux) with the sorted list of freight/passengers in stations/convoys (Tron and yobbobandana)
  • FIX: Arbitrary (and very high) demolition costs for stations/stops.
  • CHANGE: Attractions check a larger area for a road connexion (previously, they only checked the tiles immediately next to their master tile: now, they check two tiles around their master tile).
  • CODE: Placate some compiler warnings about unused variables in virtual function placeholder definitions. (yobbobandana)
  • FIX: Crashes on deleting cities (and possibly also on deleting industries and attractions)
  • FIX: Recalculation of water ribis after lowering to sea (Dwachs)
  • FIX: setting for default obsolescence after vehicles came out of production was ignored.
  • FIX: Running costs were sometimes set to 0 when scaled if the base values were very low.
  • FIX: Diagonal costs cannot be 0 if non-diagonal costs are not 0.
  • CHANGE: Allow the maximum river length to be greater (4096 rather than 1024)

Feedback and testing

Thanks to all those who have tested Simutrans-Experimental and provided useful feedback. Any feedback from this version would, as ever, also be very much appreciated, including (1) bug reports; (2) information as to how well-balanced that the game is; (3) any difference in approach/strategy needed for Simutrans-Experimental as over Simutrans-Standard; and (4) any other useful feedback.

Thanks again to all those who have worked to test Simutrans-Experimental, and happy playing!
