So we are trying to gauge the support for a Russian language board. Please vote above, and discuss below.

In regard to moderator duties: Moderators represent the Simutrans community. You must be patient and kind, and willing to help steer the development of the community. Bear in mind that the existing Simutrans forum members understand the culture of the board, but new members will not; it may be an uphill battle and difficult balance to steer the community to become a friendly, useful place. This is not an easy task.

In addition, it would be helpful for moderators and bilingual members to help with questions - not only answering what you can, but translating questions you can't, posting them on behalf of your Russian speakers; and taking answers back.

So let us know how you feel about having a Russian language board.

(Looking at download counter of my Russian citynames list) There is too few of us here.. It will be empty board.

Isaac Eiland-Hall

Some of the language boards have been a little sparse; but have seen some people participate that wouldn't have otherwise been able to.

Very true. The core crew of Czech board does not participate outside at all, still there are relatively many... And most came only after the board came into existence.

My projects... Tools for messing with Simutrans graphics. Graphic archive - templates and some other stuff for painters. Development logs for most recent information on what is going on. And of course pak128!

Well actually we've got only 2-3 sources to read and talk about Simutrans in russian. Its not that enough. Probably russian board on official forums will catalyze "demand" for information about the game. Russian english-speakers would help players with getting english parts of info and translate them in russian, and it would increase those demand I talked about.

In my opinion, its not about having low attendance. Its not problem at all. Just having official russian subforum should make people having access to ask those people who is here for a long time, and knows a lot about the game.

Isaac Eiland-Hall

To me, this sounds like there is a clear possibility of demand.

Also, I should have put in the poll: For anyone willing to be a moderator, please speak up in the thread so we know who you are. We will probably pick one or two (yes, so far, only one possibility, per the voting... but in case!), depending on the nature of the member(s) in question. :)

(this is a strategic bump, so people interested in this subject can see it once more)

Today is the 5th day this survey has run. After a week has passed, we admins will look in this topic again to see if there were more reactions.

Again:

inkelyad should be moderator, I think.

Okay, next step is going to be a private conversation about whether we should set this up, and whether we should pick a moderator.

Please stay tuned and give us a few days :)

Foxglove, could you please post the links? I would like to have a look into the material. Maybe we include these sites in our list of Simutrans fan sites (http://simutrans.com/links.htm#Simutrans_fan_sites).
