[New release] Simutrans-Experimental 9.8

    A new version of Simutrans-Experimental is available to-day: Simutrans 110.0.1 Experimental 9.8. See
here for more information on how to download, install and set up the latest version. For those already familiar with the installation and setup, here are some quick links:

Edit: Note that the above Linux builds are not the standard nightly builds, as the automatic build process is currently not working: these builds are helpfully donated by deMangler; however, the two non-server builds are not tested. There is currently no x64 server build available.

Neither Makeobj nor the configuration files have not changed for this release. Simutrans-Experimental 9.8 is a critical fix release, dealing with a number of critical issues that have emerged in version 9.7. The latest code from Standard has yet to be imported, but there is one small new feature: players' bank accounts will now earn interest when in credit. A complete list of changes follows.

  • FIX: Walking distance was calculated incorrectly.
  • FIX: Journey times were calculated incorrectly.
  • FIX: Various errors caused by erroneous merging.
  • FIX: Incorrect calculation of discomfort penalty lead to negative revenues in some cases.
  • FIX: Incorrect calculation of journey time for revenue calculations.
  • FIX: The number of private cars outstanding at the end of each month was calculated incorrectly
  • FIX: Do not generate city cars when the number outstanding of cars is negative.
  • ADD: Players now receive credit interest (at half the rate of debit interest) when their accounts are in credit.
  • FIX: Interest rate calculation.
  • FIX: Interest was not recorded in the "cash flow" graph.
  • CHANGE: Alter float errors to debug output errors from fatal errors. (This fixes the errors that some users have been having with the game crashing in the depot window, although note that users may see erroneously calculated maximum speeds in those cases instead. I hope that this will be addressed shortly).

Feedback and testing

Thanks also to all those who have tested Simutrans-Experimental and provided useful feedback: it is very much appreciated. Any feedback from this version would, as ever, also be very much appreciated, including (1) online play (see here for a list of Simutrans-Experimental servers); (2) general bug reports; (3) information as to how well-balanced that the game is; (4) any difference in approach/strategy needed for Simutrans-Experimental as over Simutrans-Standard; and (5) any other useful feedback.
