List of Extensions wanted for Simutrans Standard

This is not truly an extension request, but I didn't know where to put it.

I would like to have a list of things the Dev Team would like to have done but doesn't have time of feel like doing it.

These things may be general and difficult or simple.  And it may be updated when they get done.


Hard to say. Here is a list of things I would like to see. I hereby offer any help regarding questions how to implement.

Timothy is working on some network-play related patches that I am looking for to integrate.

Everything in the 'Considered patches' section, some of these patches need update & rework.

This extension request about transparent chat window.

I have some half-way finished patches: scripted scenario(done), routing based on travel and waiting times, a better AI.

An implementation of your highway idea.

Buildings have real heights (ie no bridges through skyscrapers).

Dragging slope tools

Modular Buildings

Duplicate images saved only once by makeobj

BackImage and FrontImage for signs and signals

Buildings to be build on slopes

I will post some links to extension requests as I will come across them.

About my highway idea, I can try some things, but it can get complicated, I guess...
Buildings with heights is appealing too.


Dwachs, I think it would be nice if periodically (monthly or bimonthly) the developers write or publish some material about features they are or may be working on and a list of features that would be welcome if some people volunteer to code for Simutrans. It could motivate more people to get involved with Simutrans source code development. If I were a coder in C++, I'd feel more confident to code for Simutrans if I know beforehand what kind of features are desired instead of picking anything randomly to code.

The Blender's DevTeam publishes some notes telling people about how the development is going on:


Well, usually the entry point into development is when you stumble across some bug or interface inconvenience. Having a list of 'Considered extension requests' could help to bring idle coders into doing some work :)

My todo list:

Tidy up Cocoa/Quartz backend
(needs work on the events system to handle touch events, and some other tweaks)

Cocoa Touch (iOS) backend

Implement a better in-game chat window

Which goes hand-in-hand with reviving this patch for player names:

Finish improvements to server listing window

Rework nettool to use CSV text in transfer
- IPv6 blacklist support
- Whitelist support for nettool connections
- Player-related nettool functions (change name/password etc.)

Translations for the server listings website (strings in SimuTranslator)

Not quite updated until recently...   ;)

Here is the content for today's revision for the lazy people.  Some of them were also pointed by Dwachs:

To be done:
- fixed_maintenance_cost for vehicles (low for trailers/wagons, high for engines,trucksbus,planes): incorporated into besch
- menu_position (left, top, right, bottom?)
- loading times for convois (entry loading_time per unit and car; easy change and open more freedom for pak set design)
- weight limit on ways by axle_load entry in vehicles (to avoid problem when going back and forth with diff. load)
- busy platform images
- Signals switching nearly like before (should be easy)
- more financial history
- detail on vehicles (like factory_details)
- city wayobj instead just sidewalks
- building/tree heights in dats
- special colors from pakset

partially done:
- connection weighted by their intermediate stops => A* for goods routing [A* did not worked out, but intermediate stops may be considered]
- tile 2x height: halfway-> need conversion for textures needed
- merge identical images in makeobj: done, merged them on loadtime
- scripting for AI: AIs are now seperate files and can be added: on the way

resize greater than 2400*1536 crashes simutrans
Toolwindow with 10 last used tools (in fixed order)
bahnhofsdetaildialog (on the station buildings)


The todo text was in there since the very beginning. It was not updated very often though ...


One more thing:

more variations with bridge and pillars graphics to be able to build real suspension bridges.
