If you buy a house and later destroy it, does the engine drop the monthly charge for the house?

Václav

Surely yes. But maintenance for houses you bought is negligible in comparison with total costs you have to pay. So if you bought only few houses in each city, you will not find it.

Thank you very much Vaclav!  This is great news!  I'm going on a buying spree. :)

What's the point in purchasing houses?

Roads

@transporter

For me, I like to play with how my cities look.  It's another dimension to the game and every bit as much fun as building roads in the wilderness.  Building streets, buying houses and placing trees...you can really get creative.

That sounds like using the public player to do that. But is there any advantage to owning a house for the company?

Roads

Actually it is a disadvantage for the company since houses you buy are kinda like houses in real life...you have to pay taxes, so it costs the company money to own them.

If your interest is strictly transportation, the "buy house" icon is absolutely worthless to you.  For me, I couldn't care less about how much money I make or how big my company is, I care about how the cities and the transportation system looks and how well it functions.  I'm not arguing that one interest is better than the other, just different and it's good the game can appeal to both interests.

That is, I couldn't care less about the money as long as I am solvent and have enough to buy and build the things I want.

The houses owned by the player will not be upgraded by the city.
