For rail-like mechanics, there are four waytypes, two of which are somewhat free game. But creating something that behaves like road is impossible, so addons have to be mixed with normal road stuff.

Thus:

Would it be economical to add a new waytype? One that would behave like roads, as in, use the same mechanics - stop or drive on sight, two-directional ways etc.

Where would you like to have such a new waytype? What purpose should it serve ?

It should be possible to add some road-like way (as long as there is no need for building tram track on it...)
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and maggikraut.

It might be good for things like rubber tyre Paris metro. They work like roads, but obviously you do not want public cars driving on them. They are not exactly a trolly bus or rail car either.

The point is that it would serve no purpose known beforehand... Quite often, people would ask about creating XYZ that should behave like ABC, and there is currently no way to get a road-like behaviour.

The question is not if it is possible, more like, is this wanted? Would it take away a bit from some important enum? Is this against vision?

Features are generally not implemented until they are needed. So first someone has to come up with a need, then we can see about a way to satisfy the need. And that goes for all projects, not just Simutrans. Someone has said or written that a feature request starts out with minus 100 points.

It would be very easy to add something like that, as it would one base such a way/vehicle on strasse_t/automobil_t instead on schiene_t/waggon_t if the need arises.
