Hi ,

How do you build power line bridges over different levels and longer as 5km? Can you tell me what trick it is? This would help me much!

For Example:

The Powerlines in Pepes Videos

"Simutrans - international bus arriving North Station" at time 0:44 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r98AnfqdG6M&feature=relmfu)

or in "Simutrans Eberswalde Airport highway drive" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnbNOmC-ed8) at time 1:31

I 'm getting insane to find out how is this possible :)

Regards

Raiser

He must have removed the length limit of the power bridge. In pak64 and pak128 for instance the length limit = 5.

Ok, i thought something in this direction - do you know where i can change the limit?

ӔO

That value, I think it was "max_length", needs to be changed within the .dat file. The dat file will also need the associated png file so that it can be compiled into a pak file.

Yes, but that's not easy. Find the source for your pak (I don't know which one you are playing) and adjust the source file for the power bridge. Then recompile with makeobj en substitute the bridge.powerbridge.pak file in your pak directory. If this sounds gibberish to you, then best leave it as it is... (I could make you one for pak64 though...)

And in pak96.comic it is 10 (and it is sufficient). I don't see sense in powerline bridges without limit but it is time to fully allow powerline tunnels - it means to add all needed graphics (in all paksets where they are powerlines). With powerline tunnels all will be OK.

Those are not pwer bridges but simple crossings. They use the same grpahics. Crossings can have any length, as long as the ways are perpendicular.

That can easily look a bit silly. If only the crossing graphics had pylons at either end...

VS

I think they're not - bridge uses the graphics with warning lights for all tiles, and this is seen here.

Ditto for crossings, something could be done about this graphics-wise. Usually it's a pain in the a**, though, since one has to precisely align the pylon on front and back to overlap into one for a series of crossings.

My projects... Tools for messing with Simutrans graphics. Graphic archive - templates and some other stuff for painters. Development logs for most recent information on what is going on. And of course pak128!

Hey Guys, thank you for your quick and helpfull replies - i managed it by finding the source code for pak 128 on sourceforge, changing the max. powerbride length to 10 in the dat file "powerlines", and adding the png "way-power_lines-128" & "Trafo_128" using Pakhelper 3.3! The Pak-file i had to change was "powerlines.all" in the directory "Simutrans/PAK 128" (not the addon directory). After that i replaced it by the new pak file "powerlines 10km.all"

Up to now there were no system crushes or other problems, so i think i can use this little modification. I wanted to change the maximun length of powerline bridges, because the are a little too short in my opinion - especially when you build high capacity industrial networks...

So where do i assign "helpfull" to your replies? I didn't find the Button?

If someone wants to use the longer Powerline Bridges i attached it here

If you put such changed files in the addon directory, you can leave all original files in place. ANy file in the addon directory will be loaded after the original file and thus replace them.

Raiser

Ahh, it was a rookie mistake - i put the file into my addon directory now and it works. certainly i saved the original before, so i could restore the primary condition. Where is this foolish "helpfull" button?

That is only available to devotees.

Is it mainly devotees that get help, or are devotees supposed to judge when someone else has been helped?

Devotees are there to judge. They do a lot of help actually, but that is coincidence...  8)

Long story: this forum came with a "Karma" tool by default. It was designed to rate people's reputation. There were 2 buttons: [ -1 ] and [ +1 ]. If you think someone is a "bad guy" you could give him a -1, or a +1 if the guy is nice. But we disabled it when we installed the forum. Later on, we ended up enabling it only for devotees*,... and then, we removed the -1 button and renamed it to "Helpful". I believe the purpose of the Helpful button has changed a lot...

* - The devotees are long-term members that were nominated and confirmed by a voting among devotees. This happens once in a while. They are called to discuss and vote on important issues of the community. The issue about donations for server maintenance was the most recent discussion we had so far.

About the "Helpful" button: I think I want to have a talk with the devotees. ^^
