Plane Routes (maybe silly question)

Okay, I have only ever managed 1 profitable route and I am an OTTD player trying to adjust to Simutrans. However, one thing frustrates me. I have tried to set up plane routes and I keep getting "[vehicle x] can't find a route." The airports are set up properly with stops, a runway, taxiways etc. I have set up schedules and I can't figure out how to get the annoying things to work. Can anyone help me? I couldn't find an answer on the wiki or here or even in the manual.

Welcome to the forum!  Which pakset and version are you using, and which exe version?  Screenshots and possibly a savegame might help as well.

@VS - didn't think control towers were necessary - aren't they just eyecandy?

Having played a lot of TTD in a previous life, the first thing that comes to mind is: when you are building your route, you are clicking on the aircraft loading area, and not the runway or taxiway, right?

Other than in (O)TTD, Simutrans airports are built tile-by-tile, the actual airport consists of loading areas and extension buildings. All of the tiles where the planes need to move (runways and taxiways - loading areas are located on the latter) must be interconnected properly, and the connection to the next airport must pass a runway on each of the involved airports, otherwise the plane won't find a path. Taxiways must not attach to an end tile of a runway. Hangars must not be placed on a runway or in the middle of a taxiway. (There are more rules - I usually don't play with airplanes, so my experience in this regard is negligible.)

Whoami, he says he searched on wiki and in manual :)

And yes, towers are needed unless something changed and I didn't look.

The manuals (both starter guide and reference manual) contain info about building an airport, but they don't show the reader all rules (or the possible errors). So if the player doesn't build the airport exactly as shown, it may not work for some reason.

Are you trying to hint me at writing down this stuff in the Wiki? It doesn't even cover airports, but there is an introduction page for TTD players.

Why would they be necessary in ST?

@VS - look at my screenshot in pakBritain development thread and see how many control towers there are  :)

Perhaps you're interested in this tutorial about Building an airport and making it work. It's in portuguesse.

Pity I can't read Portugese!

I have control towers and clicked on the aircraft loading area in both cases. I also have taxiways linked to the runway, terminals and stops. The schedule is showing both airports and I have the same problem in both pak64 and pak128.britain. I will send screenshots later today.

Well Control Towers are new to me (and I don't think I know all the rules or errors) and I haven't checked the "How to Construct an Airport" since Simutrans 89.something.

I don't use aircraft much but I will improve the document.

Neither I, but in these cases, online translators are your best friends .. ;)

I am a pro translator. I know what those things do. It is more likely it will think the page is a tutorial on how to cook an egg than it is to give me useful, well translated info. However, given the options, I will give it a try. If that thing instructs me to takeover Chile with a waffle-maker and a spork, it's all your fault!
