Hello everyone,

My computer was recently destroyed, and I have pulled an old one out of storage to use until I get the good one fixed. The problem is, Simutrans lags horribly, even on small maps with no trees and only a few vehicles. I am getting an FPS reading of ~15 constantly. My system specs are a Pentium III processor at 0.5 GHz, 384MB of RAM, and about 30GB of hard drive space.. I am running Windows XP SP3, using Simutrans version 102.2 with pak128 and no additional addons.

So, is my system inadequate to handle the game? Is there something else I can do to fix the lag problem?

Thanks in advance,

Frank

Perhaps the cpu speed is a little bit slow for Simutrans but there's at least a possible solution to run the game in old computers. I've found this in the archive

QuoteI recommend to you to change in the file simuconf.tab the value in the line frames_per_second = 25. Reduce it to 15 or even 10 should help you to playing well.
I had the same Problem on my PII-400 machine and with 10 FPS Simutrans is working fine.

Also, pak128 is one of the more demanding graphic sets, due to the large size of the images. You could try if a smaller set (pak96.comic, pak64) work better on this computer.

I used pak64 successfully on an old 400Mhz CPU/128MB ram computer, but pak128 would not work there.

Ithink the answer is really to go for 10 frames per second, best written in simuconf.tab. On my netbook, which has a 600MHz CPU pak64 run just fine, so you might be a tiny bit on the slow side.

I changed the setting to 10 frames, and pak128 is working reasonably well so long as I do not load the map up with hundreds of convos. Pak64 works great, but both are using 99% of CPU power at all times, and about half my RAM.

At least you can shorten the time until you have a new PC a bit, now that Simutrans runs somewhat well on the old PC :)
