downloaded and running setup.  a popup appears and asks: Should this be a portable installation? yes/no

Huh?

hell if I know.  What is a portable installation?  I'm not taking it anywhere.  Well I really don't want to know, I guess I just want to know what to click yes or no.  Thanks.

Frank

portable installation save all files ( save games, screenshots ) in programm folder

you must write rights for the programm folder and you can not load addon/load without addon ( addons save in user folder ) on start simutrans

Herocrafter

So I want to click yes if I want the game to save in the same folder, load any addon?  Basically yes would be the default choice?  Thanks for your help, Frank!

prissi

The default installation should be No for normal installation, since it store all user configurable settings in My Documents, where also addons can be installed. Portable has some additional restrictions.

Herocrafter

Ok.  Thanks.  What I found was if I try and put the game where I normally put games C:\Games  I get the portable question and if I put it in the default location I'm not even asked.

Anyway both attemps never finish as I get hung up (not responding) when I get to the part thats downloading simupak64-102-2-2.zip.

You can just download and unzip the executable and the pak into this directory, even if sourceforge is busy. No further installation is done.

I was going to do that first but when I was given a choice between Window native and Windows  w/ SDL I opted for  the online installer.  But now I'm back to the aforementioned choice, and still not sure which to pick.

prissi

If you do not use 16 bit unicode: Use the SDL version.

Herocrafter

Thank you.  I'll dl the SDL version as I'm running 64 bit windows vista.  Thanks again.
