Is it possible to edit maps?

Well I was in maps.simutrans.com
and I was looking at some maps I liked but they are 1200x1200
and my computer sucks :(
So I was think about downloading a map.
and cutting out a part of it and use it...
Is it possible?

yes, it's not that hard to do. The maps are a type of bitmap picture and you can open them up with a program like faststone image viewer to edit them.
