Right now I am playing the game.

I was using 145 km/h maximum rails with a max of 65 tons. I bought the Vickers electric train available in 1922 which has a tonnage of 61 tons.

I thought it would drive over that rails. But I kept on getting: cannot find route to destination when I wanted it to leave the depot. I rebuild the track twice, redid the electric wiring but nothing worked. Out of frustration I put heavier rails in and that solved it.

Apart from the issue that a 61 ton train cannot drive over a 65 ton max track ....... there was an even more frustrating issue.

Cannot find a route ..... in the past it meant 2 pieces of track didn't connect, wrong signals or something like that. Now canot find route can mean something totally different. Can't some more info been given when the message cannot find a route is given?

I like the idea of giving more detail for route errors.
maybe if route calculation fails, the program can recalculate with less restrictions, like electrified or weight, to see if there is a valid route that is connected and what it's missing along that route.

If there's no valid route, like the rails are not joined up, maybe the program can calculate routes for both forwards and backwards from the points and highlight direct path from nearest points. It will treat land and water as just 'water' and draw the direct path' that seems to be missing. Since the disconnected rails are most likely end points, the route calculator might be faster if it just calculates from the end points instead of from anywhere.

I just wonder what sort of computational power this requires.

The feature requested is already supposed to be in Simutrans-Experimental (Bernd Gabriel added it a while ago); evidently, it is not working. Can you upload a saved game?
