Why are cities not connected by roads?

I just got a new Win 11 computer, and of course the first thing I did was install Simutrans using the online installer.

In the several games I have started, only a couple cities are connected by roads, or none of them are. I have started games in pak128 and pak128 Great Britain. In my pak128 Great Britain game, none of the 25 cities was connected to any other city. Is there a "roads" setting that I should select when starting a new game?

I have never had this issue with Simutrans on any other computer.

I believe there should be an intercity roads setting at the start screen. It is has been a while since I looked at it so I might be wrong. It is either about the amount or length of those.

There is a maximum distance for intercity road length. Make this longer and more cities will be connected. However, there may be bodies of water or montain ranges which are impossible for simple road construction.

Thanks very much for the replies. I must be doing something wrong, because I have never had cities that are not connected to any other city.

I have played around with landscape settings in the default pak as well as pak128, pak128 Great Britain and pak192 Comic. Sometimes I get maps with most, but not all, cities connected.

I will keep trying different things. I play Simutrans more than any other game, so I need to figure things out.

Is there any way to tweak the geography parameters in Simutrans to increase connectivity between cities in the game?

Yes, you can increase the intercity road length in the extended settings.
