The game comes with some explanation of the starting options, but it is rather limited and in some cases confusing. I have some questions.

  • Depending, of course, on map size, what's a good number of cities
  • What are the pros and cons of having a large or small network of inter-city roads
  • What is a good number of industry chains
  • What does "power" % mean? What are the pros and cons of a high or low number
  • What is a good median number of citizens per city?

I will be compiling all the answers and writing some helpful tutorials.

You can build a big map with many towns or a big map with less towns or ... How you like it!

How you like it. For a normal map (not so big) maybay 10.

How you like it. Like you villiages or metropoles?

Industry chains appear as cities grow, so you want to leave a lot of space for eventual future expansion. On the other hand, you want to have something already available for the starting time when you are still hoarding $$$ to start some decent passenger network. 10 seems a reasonable number for large maps; it all depends on how big the map really is...

Intercity roads are very good to have. You can always bulldoze them, and they allow you to start with buses at almost zero infrastructure costs (I don't play that style but it's obvious, hehe).

Towns - they don't appear, so plan carefully. Remember that they grow - sometimes into really huge suburban sprawls. A few tries will give you better idea than me ranting here for paragraphs. I'll post more in the other thread.

Size of cities is rather important when starting passenger network. To put it simply, the more people, the more transport. When cities are small, you might have problems with profit in early stages. But you have to transport people to make them grow more...

when more maps is large, how value it is? plus or minor?

Imho it doesn't depends only on the map size, but rather on the style you want to play. If you want to set up passenger only network, you will need only few industry chains (maybe 2-3), in order to get the starting money for your passenger network (or you play with -freeplay). If you want to set up goods transport, you need more industries, which you can connect.
