A new version of Simutrans-Experimental is available to-day: Simutrans 112.3 Experimental 11.6. See here for more information on how to download, install and set up the latest version. For those already familiar with the installation and setup, here are some quick links:

Edit: Added link to Mac OS X binaries (thanks to M. Collett for compiling those) and Linux binaries.

Note that the Windows binaries contain the Windows version of the no-graphics server, Makeobj and Nettool, and the Linux server binary contains the Linux version of Nettool. Makeobj has been updated for this version, but the update is very minor (see here for details).

This is a minor bug fixing release to address some of the issues identified since the release of 11.4. Thanks to all those who have posted bug reports. The last major release was Simutrans-Experimental 11.0, which contained significant enhancements over the previous version.

A full list of changes follows.

Changes since 11.5

  • FIX: If a rail type convoy had its route unreserved, another convoy could enter its space and collide with it.
  • CHANGE: Do not set back when reversing.
  • CHANGE: Trains will reserve their whole platform when reversing at a station.
  • CHANGE: Reversing trains will not reserve a route until they have finished reversing.
  • CHANGE: Trains no longer have to come to a halt before being allocated a route by a choose signal.
  • FIX: Trains would sometimes ignore signals if there was a way-point shortly before a stop
  • FIX: Convoys would sometimes incorrectly skip a spacing slot.
  • FIX: Goods destined for a closed factory are now deleted as soon as they are unloaded
  • FIX: Goods destined for a closed factory formerly generated revenue on being unloaded.
  • CHANGE: Goods waiting in a station/stop destined for a factory are checked periodically and discarded if the factory has closed
  • CHANGE: Use the DNS address rather than the IP address for the announce server. It is not clear whether the former bug in relation to this has been fixed on merging somewhere between 10.x and 11.0.
  • FIX: Power stations in towns in which there are substations could not have a substation connected to them.
  • FIX: Incorrect calculation of power supply/demand in some cases
  • FIX: Failed correctly to register ships as already having processed their loading code on occasions, causing, on those occasions, infinite waiting for ships with a waiting time
  • FIX: Convoys were sometimes incorrectly registered as unloading at a particular stop which they had long since left.
  • FIX: Possible bugs found by MSVS Code Analyser
  • CHANGE: Add forwards compatibility for new Standard equivalents of "station_capacity", "station maintenance" and "station_price" (being "cost", "capacity" and "maintenance"). Makeobj feature only.
Feedback and testing

Thanks also to all those who have tested Simutrans-Experimental and provided useful feedback: it is very much appreciated. Any feedback from this version would, as ever, also be very much appreciated, including (1) the new features introduced in 11.0 (see here); (2) online play (see here for a list of Simutrans-Experimental servers); (3) general bug reports; (4) information as to how well-balanced that the game is; (5) any difference in approach/strategy needed for Simutrans-Experimental as over Simutrans-Standard; and (6) any other useful feedback.

I should also be grateful for feedback on how the performance of this version compares to recent previous versions (10.27 and earlier).

I shall bid people good playing, and look forward to any feedback!
